'Ahaaaa we are fine tonight. The Anchor is the centre of our scene'
In August 2024, a new music video was shot for the David Palfreyman song ‘Overtime Hours’, which is taken from his forthcoming solo album, ‘Opening Time for the Battered’. The song is a retrospective of a youth, perhaps misspent, in the town's pubs and clubs. In particular, the ones associated with the local music scene.
Featured in the video are Rodger Hanna on guitar, Ben Miles on bass, David Clayton on keyboards, Stuart ‘Nip’ Healey on drums and David Palfreyman on vocals. With the exception of Edinburgh born Rodger Hanna, all of the musicians were bought up in the Chesterfield/Sheffield area.
The venue for the video shoot was the popular pub/music venue, The Neptune on St Helens Street in Chesterfield. Fittingly, as a nod to the musical history of the town, appearing throughout the video are luminaries from the Chesterfield music and arts scene of the last 50 years. Legendary record shop owners, local artists, producers, actors and of course members of numerous Chesterfield bands including The Thompson Twins, The Daisy Age, Pearl Harbor, The Pete Boam Band, Catwalk Creepshow and The Bland, all showed up to drink beer and appear in the video.
The original idea was to shoot the video in the old Victoria (Vic) Ballroom on Knifesmithgate in Chesterfield, an old dance hall which back in the 60's and early 70's played host to many of the big acts at the time including Bill Haley, Little Richard, The Who, The Kinks, The Hollies, Jethro Tull, Free, Roy Harper and Mott The Hoople. Unfortunately the video team couldn’t get access to the old place in time, so the kind folks at the Neptune saved the day and kindly allowed us to use their live space. Nip played his first gigs at the Vic as drummer for Harry Griebsons String Band as a mere 15 year old in the late 60's and supported the likes of King Crimson and Family there. Nip appears as the drummer in this video for the connection from that glorious 60’s Chesterfield music scene, to now. Thanks Nip!
The video was shot by James Herron who is currently on tour as the set and stage designer for the band Cats in Space. Thank you to James for a fabulous shoot and for being the consummate pro he is and making everyone feel comfortable and welcome!
